Peter Muthig Phoenix, Arizona
Peter Muthig earned his Juris Doctor degree from Stanford Law School in 1992. While at Stanford, Mr. Muthig served as Lt. Governor for the ABA Law Student Division, was a Senior Articles Editor for Stanford’s Environmental Law Journal, and was a student committee member of the ABA’s Section of Patent, Trademark and Copyright Law. Following law school, Mr. Muthig worked a one year term as a law clerk for the Honorable Lawrence T. Lydick in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, and subsequently became a litigator in private practice. Mr. Muthig was admitted to practice law in the State of California in 1992. During his years in California, Mr. Muthig gained experience in many areas of the law including complex business litigation, real estate, insurance bad faith, products liability and, most significantly, environmental defense and compliance. Mr. Muthig practiced environmental law from 1998-2004, assisting in the defense of several complex, multi-party Superfund cases. Two of those cases resulted in published decisions on developing areas of Superfund law in California’s Eastern and Central District courts. Mr. Muthig also worked extensively on cases involving California’s Proposition 65, a statute enacted to protect citizens from exposure to carcinogens. In this regard, Mr. Muthig co-authored an article for the State Bar’s Environmental Law News regarding defense strategies in Prop. 65 litigation. Mr. Muthig was admitted to practice law in Arizona in 1998, and returned to his former home here in Phoenix in 2004. In the two years following his return to Arizona, Mr. Muthig acquired significant experience working in construction defect litigation. As a senior associate with the firm, Mr. Muthig now practices in the areas of commercial litigation, construction defect law, civil litigation, insurance bad faith and insurance coverage litigation.
